Artist Statement
Art should engage you on an emotional level with visual continuity.
As a mixed media artist the ability to create one of a kind pieces
comes intuitively and from the heart.
I never know what the completed pieces will look like at the beginning.
As the work forms, I see in my minds eye what the next step will
be. My artwork is unique and I hope you will enjoy.
Celebration Of Women Through Faces In Fabric
(Mixed Media On Fabric Series #2)
Designing with mixed media on fabric began in 1996. Although I
loved the outcome, I wanted to work more in painting and sculpturing,
so I switched gears. In 2006 my love for fabric peaked again, when
I started encountering new and beautiful fabric designs. From yards
of toile, to contemporary, to whimsical textile designs, I was
in fabric heaven. These pieces of fabric were an art form in itself.
I decided to go back to mixed media on fabric designs of 1996 and
give these beautiful fabrics a life of their own in the fabric
series, Celebration Of Women Through Faces In Fabric. In working
on this series, I noticed similarities between women and fabric
and the idea evolved. Women are like fabric in that fabric comes
in all colors & textures, from many different cultures. The
integrity of purpose, strength, and beauty should be respected
and celebrated. You could ask, why the combination of women, fabric,
and art? When I can combine my passion for art with ideas that
are close to my heart, I feel that I've not only created an art
piece, but a compelling motif.
Another part of my design inspiration comes from an inviting fabric
pattern. A French scenic fabric print, toile, influenced me so
much; I had to create an artwork embodying the print. Inspiration
also comes from eclectic finds. Two ornate tassels resulted in
the creation of, "Spanish Contessas". Incorporating things
of whimsy, a keepsake, a favored theme or fabric print, the possibilities
are as endless as the imagination.
